Welcome to the Office of Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships in the Perry Honors College

We provide individual mentoring to exceptional ůůֱ²¥ undergraduates seeking merit-based, nationally-competitive prestigious scholarship and fellowship awards to fund graduate education, pursue research opportunities and projects, and gain high-level work experience. We offer a range of services and resources to help students to identify awards, fellowships, and scholarships and guide them through application preparation and processes. We welcome qualified students to develop a scholarship profile and strengthen their candidacy for highly competitive national and international scholarships and fellowships.

Although we are housed in the Perry Honors College, we serve the entire ůůֱ²¥ undergraduate community. Contact us for an appointment to explore the possibilities if you:

  • are an outstanding undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.7 or higher
  • have completed 18 or more credit hours at ůůֱ²¥
  • have a strong record of community service or other activities or involvements
  • have an interest in continuing research or graduate study
  • and have a strong track record of creative or intellectual endeavor

The deadlines for the Brock Foundation Endowed Honors Scholarship, the Cranmer-Skinner Scholarship, and the Robert T. Cahill and Amanda J. Cahill Scholarship have been extended to April 15.

In addition to being eligible for a wide variety of other scholarships available to ůůֱ²¥ students, Honors College students can apply for the following scholarships in the spring semester of each academic year:

Funded by Patricia and Douglas Perry to honor the major contributions of former President John Broderick and First Lady Kate Broderick to ůůֱ²¥ University and the Commonwealth, the Broderick Scholarship Program provides opportunity scholarships to help rising sophomores and juniors pursue their educational interests while making a difference in the world. Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate in the Honors College (Note: All Honors College students may apply after they have completed one semester in the Honors College.)
  • Minimum 3.25 cumulative ůůֱ²¥ University grade point average.
  • Participation in extracurricular activities

Application Procedure

Send a 1-2 page letter of application for the scholarship and a resume by April 15 to perryhonorscollege@odu.edu. Place "Cranmer-Skinner Honors Scholarship" in the subject line. The letter should identify your current GPA and major or intended major. The focus of the letter should be a description of how your participation in extracurricular activities and community service has benefited you, the university, and the community.

  • Junior or rising Senior
  • Good academic standing
  • Willingness and ability to provide tutoring services for local high school students through the ACCESS program (a minimum of 45 hours of tutoring over the fall 13 and spring 14 semesters is required). For more information about the ACCESS program consult .

Application Procedure

Send a 1-2 page letter of application for the scholarship and a resume by April 15 to perryhonorscollege@odu.edu. The letter should identify your current GPA and major or intended major. The focus of the letter should be a description of your previous experience as an academic tutor, the skills and experience that you would bring to the tutorial situation, and the subjects and skills (academic subjects, success training, etc.) you are qualified to tutor.

Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student EnhancementÌý(U-RISE)ÌýUndergraduate Student Training for Academic ResearchÌý(U*STAR) supports students' academic and research activities while they train to enter Ph.D. programs.

U-RISE TraineesÌýbegin the program when they are Juniors majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, or Psychology. They receive excellent financial benefits, exceptional professional training through research experiences, and participate in professional development thru conferences and workshops tailored to their professional needs.

U-RISE TraineesÌýmake exceptional candidates for doctoral program admission and are very strong candidates for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and other discipline specific fellowships.

Goldwater applicants must be nominated byÌýůůֱ²¥ University in order to be eligible for the national competition.ÌýTo be considered for nomination as a Goldwater Scholar, you must be a full-time matriculated sophomore or junior and have a college GPA of at least 3.5.ÌýGoldwater applicants must be U.S. citizens, a resident alien intending on obtaining U.S. citizenship, or a U.S. national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands. If you are interested in competing for one of these awards, please contact the Perry Honors College (perryhonorscollege@odu.edu) in the second semester of your sophomore year so that you can be informed about the internal review process, application materials, and deadlines. In order to receive ůůֱ²¥ University's endorsement for one of these scholarships, you will need to submit materials for the university's internal review process, and the Prestigious Scholarship Committee will need to select you as one of ůůֱ²¥'s applicants for the scholarship competitions.
